NEW YORK STATE PISTOL PERMIT
SAFETY COURSE

2022 - 2023

New York State 18 Hour Concealed Carry Firearms Safety Course. Attending this course will allow you to apply for a pistol permit in accordance with the NYS Pistol Law effective 1 September 2022. This is a 16 hour course, plus two hours of range time. You can also use this course to renew your NYS permit in jurisdictions that require the 18 Hour course for permit renewal.


This class will be conducted several times in 2023 at the Crum Elbow Sportsmens Association. The course fee includes firearms, ammunition, safety equipment, and the full two days of required classroom training as well as the required range qualifications. The VSA provides training to all areas of the Hudson Valley as well as Eastern PA. If any club or organization is interested in cohosting this course, please contact us for scheduling information

VETERAN SAFE PROJECT (VSP)

Starting on 1 January, 2023

NEW for 2023. The Veterans Sportsmens Association launches a new initiative - VETERAN SAFE PROJECT (VSP) -  PROMOTING SUICIDE AWARENESS AND FIREARM SAFETY FOR VETERANS.

NRA TRAINING PROGRAM

Starting in January 2023

The Veterans Sportsmens Association has teamed up with firearms manufacture KAHR Arms to provide NRA Training Courses at their Tommy Gun Warehouse facility in Greeley PA starting in 2023. These NRA Basic and Instructor Level Courses will be open to the public, and will be listed on the NRA Training Website.


Special discounts will be available to Law Enforcement Personnel (Active or Retired), as well as for Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Military Members and Veterans.

FREE LIFETIME ACCESS TO NATIONAL PARKS FOR VETERANS

Free Entrance to National Parks for Gold Star Families and Veterans

A free lifetime Military Pass is available for Gold Star Families and US military veterans. A free annual Military Pass is available for current US military members and their dependents. The passes provide free access to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks, wildlife refuges, and forests.

SIMUNITIONS TRAINING

Force on Force Training

The Veterans Sportsmens Association has acquired its first pair of Simunitions Glock 17T Training Weapons which will be used to provide Force on Force and Active Shooter Training in 2023. 


Students should bring to the course all of their duty operational equipment which they would normally wear;  Eye protection; Duty-belt; Tac-lights; Appropriate footwear; Athletic and seasonal outdoor clothing; Long-sleeved BDUs; Full body covering (recommended); Protective gloves; Notebook and pen.

WEEKEND FOR WARRIORS

The Veterans Sportsmens Association (VSA) was a proud supporter of the 2022 Weekend For Warriors participants. VSA Firearms Instructors Vic, Frank and Bob brought this years participants to two local ranges for a fun day of trap and skeet shooting. Special Thanks to the Crum Elbow Sportsmens Association and Pleasant Valley Trout and Game for use of their ranges.

PLEASANT VALLEY VETERANS, LLC.

Starting 1 October 2022 the Veterans Sportsmens Association (VSA) will have its own Commercial Office Space at 1335 Route 44 Pleasant Valley, New York. This is a shared building which will be under the operation of Pleasant Valley Veterans, LLC.


Pleasant Valley Veterans, LLC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of its parent company Mental Health America of Dutchess County, Inc., of 253 Mansion Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. The Pleasant Valley Veterans, LLC will be a one stop shop for all Veterans services in Dutchess County.

WARRIORS & WHISKEY

The Veterans Sportsmens Association has partnered up with Warriors and Whiskey to host social events at select distilleries, bars, and other venues around the Hudson Valley Region for our members and guests to unwind and forge new friendships while learning about carefully selected local whiskey.

SABRE

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM

On 30 July 2022, Instructors for the Veterans Sportsmens Association completed the SABRE CIVILIAN SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING 10 hour Instructor Certification Program. Instructors learned the essential facts about pepper spray, proper ways to carry pepper spray, how to deploy it effectively against an assailant, methods of teaching, decontamination techniques, as well as actual practice using inert canisters.

RADIO DONATION

The Veterans Sportsmens Association would like to thank Motorola Corporation for their very generous donation of new radios, equipment and accessories. These radios will greatly enhance our ability to safely communicate and coordinate as a team for our Veterans events and activities.

NRA FOUNDATION GRANT

The Veterans Sportsmens Association (VSA) was very fortunate to be a recipient of the Friends of the NRA Grant Program for 2021 - 2022. The VSA received funds to purchase Two new Hammerli Tac R1 22 rifles and One Glock 44 Pistol. The Hammerli Tac R1 22 C offers the best precision, quality, and value of any .22 L.R. AR-Style rifle on the market. Featuring a 13” M-LOK® handguard, flip up back-up sights, removable flash-hider, and ergonomic stock & grip, the TAC R1 22 C rifle is the most versatile .22 rifle available. All of these features, in addition to the all-aluminum construction of it’s receivers and handguard, set a new standard for performance and value. The VSA will use this new Hammerli rifles and Glock 44 for all upcoming pistol and rifle courses.

Under this grant, the VSA also received  

1 case .22LR ammunition

.22 cal Empty Chamber indicator and fast pull tab

1 box (12 count) shooting glasses 1 box disposable foam earplugs


Total value of this grant was $1200.00

2022 MEMBERSHIP SHIRTS

The 2022 Membership Shirts have arrived and will be available for pick up at each Quarterly Meeting this year.

The Veterans Sportsmens Association (VSA) is composed of Veterans and Civilians alike who take pride in honoring All Veterans for their service and sacrifices. 


The Veterans Sportsmens Association (VSA)  is a Federally recognized 501c3 Non-profit Organization, and we are located in Poughkeepsie, New York.


VSA members are 100% nonpaid Volunteers. Absolutely all of the funds generated through fundraising and donations assist local Veterans, Guard, Reserve and Active duty military and their families. We provide Veteran sponsored shooting events, firearms training, and other outdoor activities within the Hudson Valley Region.​

The VSA is a proud member of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)

DONATING STOCK TO A CHARITY PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS TO BOTH PARTIES

If a supporter donates a stock that has increased in value, the donor will not have to pay capital gains tax in the future and the charity will not either. What’s more, the donation is tax-deductible if the donor itemizes their taxes. This will allow them to claim a tax deduction based on the value of the stock at the time of the transfer if they have owned the stock at least one year and one day
